9-11 Shocked me: I Saw a Terrorist on 9-9

This happened to me relating to the 9-11 attack. The audio story is longer and has more detail leading up. The written story is summary:
What to do: Should I call the FBI? Did I not really see a man who looked suspicious; did I not feel a certainty in knowing he was going to hijack an airplane?
The 9-11 attacks had already happened by then, but I wanted to help. I woke that day, 9-13-01, remembering all I had seen and all I had sensed, also. God now had me in a position to act on what He spoke to me. I was afraid the FBI agent would think me crazy. “I saw a man and knew intuitively by looking into his evil eyes that he was going to hijack an airplane. Sure.”
Those were the anxious thoughts I had during the aftermath of the Towers attack in 2002. The smoke was still so intense that day in New York downtown we all were still riveted to the media feeds. I finally got the courage to call. They are getting hundreds of calls and asking for the leads. They had nothing much to go on, the publicity said. If I wait, the trail will fade.
So, I dialed a local FBI number. I knew the name of another agent already, so I was going to “drop” it so he could double check my story against a reliable character reference. The phone rang. My heart was racing a bit. “FBI.” This was uneasy.
“I want to report information pertaining to the attack on the World Trade Center,” I said.
“Please hold.”
It is like hearing from God, I doubted it so much. Now I know for sure. The FBI does not know that. This agent is going to have fun laughing at the crazy one who called in and “God told him” a guy was going to commit the largest mass murder in American history; and he waited two days to tell us. Those were my thoughts.
“Officer Kennedy here. May I help you?”
So, I told the officer that I worked for a prison ministry and had really been near danger. I told him that once I instictively could feel it. That was confirmed later. I said, “Have you ever seen into a man’s eyes and evil was there.” I was feeling him out on intuition. I knew the answer and this seemed to work as an introduciton.
“Yes sir. I have. I have been in danger and sensed it, too, before I saw it.” That changed my mood.
“So, you do not think it farfetched to call in a possible sighting of a hijacking suspect based on my sense of that? Because if you do, I don’t have anything else.” This was before it was known that the terrorists who flew in the plane from Boston to NYC was manned by those who came across the Canadian border in a rental car, parked it at the airport in Portland, Maine, and flew to Boston.
“I take your call seriously sir. What happened.”
So, I told him that as I arrived at the Portland Airport on Sunday, the 9th of September, I saw a man. When I looked into his eyes, this came to me: “That man is going to hijack an airplane. I am glad I have my hiking sticks folded and ready if I need a weapon. Should I keep going?”
“Yes sir, what time and what was his description?”
I told him the exact time I checked in, two hours early and went for a lobster roll.
“I saw this man standing in the restaurant! He never sat, was 6’4″, slender, Egyptian by my guess, wearing very large dark plastic rimmed glasses with “coke bottle” lenses. Still, through the thick lenses, I could see evil. Accompanying him was a woman about 5’2″ feet tall, wearing a gray robelike dress and a head covering. By my guess she was Islamic and by the color of the robe she was Saudi.”
“I watched him the entire two hours. Have you ever seen anyone not sit in an airport for two hours? I haven’t. He was carrying over his shoulder a plastic hanging bag. He was dressed like a diplomat or businessman. None of that fits. People in this decade do not carry plastic bags anymore over clothing with hangers. They do not wear lenses or glasses like that. The whole thing felt extremely phony to me. That was confirmed when I got near them in the lounge. They spoke the most tortured English I have ever heard. It was almost untelligible as English. This was odd, because it was as if they were passing off as Americans on a weekender. Why speak to a friend or spouse in a language you barely know?”
“I did not feel they were married since there was detachment between them. I was not convinced they knew how bad their English was, so I felt they had not been living in an English speaking country. They were in disguise by my instincts.”
Officer Kennedy was intently writing. I could tell he was taking this very seriously. I was relieved-I guess I have seen too many Hollywood scenarios allowing the police to ignore good information to build suspense!
“When we boarded, the woman who checked my bags for American Eagle at the ticket counter also collected, after also announcing the flights, my boarding pass. You see, the security was almost non-existent, so they had three prop-jet airplanes already cranked and ready, and boarded them all at once with one agent on the ground! My greatest comfort was I could not understand why anyone would hijack a prop-jet with limited range and limited seating.”
We both laughed at that. “Where did they go? Do you know.”
“Yes, this morning I woke up and worked it all out. Something bothered me the past two days: he was the last person to offer his boarding pass for the second plane and I was the first person for Boston. She called “La Guardia” before my plane. This man handed his ticket to the agent, then she said to me, “OK, Boston, now, right down the stairs.” All of us mingled together down the stairs and I passed him and onto the tarmac. Without seating assignments, we could have gotten on any plane. However, there was a wrinkle on the seating.”
“After boarding I started reading again, with my metal hiking sticks handy. A few minutes later, a woman with a German accent started a row- she told a man she had the pass for that seat. So did he. The German insisted she had to have that seat because she was handicapped. It seemed very out of line and unusual to make such a case on a cramped commuter plane and a thirty minute flight. So this passenger left the plane and returned with the single ground agent for three planes and came inside. The agent was not in eyesight of the other planes now, so someone could deboard and no one would know.”
“The agent told everyone that the plane was not full; so, she said to sit anywhere you want. This seemed to work. However, a few minutes later, I felt someone brush my shoulder with a plastic clothes bag. I kept reading. It was not until this morning I woke up realizing the man who scared me was actually on my flight. I remembered seeing him exit the plane but it did not completely register until now. He sat behind me so I never saw him until he walked into the terminal in Boston. I remember the color of his clothes and his plastic bag, seeing them from the back.”
The agent asked if I had any more details. “If you go to the security cameras for the flight I took and here is the number …, you will see him. Then go to the gate that flight exited in Boston and you will see him again and confirm he was there. I am now sure I saw him on my flight, and I am sure he was ticketed on the flight to La Guardia with his companion. Go look at the cameras and you will see her, too. They did not board together I do not think.”
The very sharp agent for the FBI thanked me and told me this was not nonsense in his opinion and gave me goodbye.
About five hours later, I was listening to a report on the news. “We have just gotten word of our first break in identifying the terrorists in the airplanes. This man is the one thought to be the leader of a flight from Boston that flew into a Tower, the pilot.” The picture was my man. It was Mohammad Atta, an Egyptian born man residing in Germany. He did not have the glasses, or the disguise, but his eyes, hair and head shape were identical, even on TV. I will never forget them. Others said the same thing-all who ever saw him.
“We also just have word that his residence was raided today and arrests were made. Two women were at his house in Germany. In addition, we just got word that as many as six more terror suspects were arrested in La Guardia airport wearing Delta airline uniforms, attempting to leave the U.S. and detained. Apparently they aborted another attempt from a flight there in New York City to fly into some other target…And in additional news, it appears Mohammad Atta flew to Boston from Portland, Maine, on Sunday, went back to Portland, then accompanied several of the terrorists to Boston on Monday-like a trial run.”
This all confirmed, at least to me, that I had seen the pilot of the plane. I wished so much that I had reported him in Boston, but I was not conscious enough of his presence there to do anything. I am not sure anything could have been done.
It also convinced me the safest place on earth is in the center of God’s will, where He wants me: a lesson I learned
I flew on a plane with a terrorist and was safe. God told me to fly on that plane the night before. I had the urgent sense that I must leave on Sunday but I did not want to leave. There were no other seats home for a week except standby. I could get caught in Boston with nothing but camping clothes for days. I had just hiked five days on the Appalachian Trail and had only a backpack and wilderness gear; oh, and the knowledge that I know a mighty and personal God!
I hear God and He speaks to me about important things: a lesson I learned.
There are many more details that honor God and lead up to this-I saw an angel in Gorham, NH, on Friday. This and more are included in an audio version of this story that will be posted probably today on this site. It is much longer and is a very interesting story as part of this; events leading up to my being in Portland that day: I took a cab ninety miles to take that airplane! A friend helped me by recording it and also joining in with some of his own story on 9-11-all of us have one.

Hi Bob.
Wow! Incredible….Read my 9-11 story on my blog too. I do remember the middle eastern men flying our non-stop flights to Los Angeles and hanging around the galleys of our planes talking ..they WERE scoping us out…..if only we had known what was getting ready to happen…
This teaches us to pay attention and if our gut is telling us something is wrong : it probably IS! Oh my..thanks for sharing your story with the world.
Deb Smith
former AA flight attendant
Thank you so much for sharing this amazing story. I’m looking forward to hearing more.
This is a great encouragement to act on what we beleieve God is saying to us even if we may look foolish.
Be blessed

Thanks for your story, too, Deb. I just read it. It seems angels moved and saved so many lives-we should praise God that 30,000, including me and you, were not killed that day. That was the original estimate. It was supernatural that so few died. I am so glad YOU did what God lead you to do, even though we are not always aware it it is God!
Go read Deb’s story at connect7coaching.com Bob
I am truly grateful for your reading and commenting Lynne. I also want to thank you for re-Tweeting it on Twitter. Readers, follow her @Lynnelee there. I loved how you said it, because God seems to regularly set us up so we think we will look foolish just to make us closer!
Bob
wow, I’ve never heard that story before! That’s awesome you were an FBI informant. Your quote “the safest place on earth is in the center of God’s will” was very comforting and much more real after reading your story. Thanks for sharing with all of us.

How well I remember talking to you at that time and adding confirmation, in the Spirit, that you should call the FBI. How closely God is knitting His children together where we can finally be “as one”…..in spite of denomination, race, etc. God desires to do that as HE is surely using you and this blog to bring all kinds of people together who want to hear His voice, respond when He speaks, and know Him well enough that we will move “by the guiding of His eye”. I remember well as a child when I got “that” look from my mother and I knew I had better straighten up. For so long, I thought God was looking at me mostly to correct or rebuke me. How wrong I was. He is looking at His children with so much love, acceptance, and affirmation to lead us under the “shelter of His wing”. There is no place I would rather be…….It was encouraging to be a part of that scenario as you did have pieces of the puzzle that helped the US resolve the worst tragedy that has happened on American soil. Let’s not forget that there are those who still want to attack us, (while not forgetting to pray for the salvation of their souls) and to listen as carefully as you did to the Spirit’s voice. But the most important lesson I think I am getting from what you wrote is how aware we must be of what is going on around us and then to move when He says MOVE.
Blessings,
CP
Yes, Corina. I do not know why it was challenging to publish this story until now. I struggled and procrasinated even writing it this week. I think I do not like drawing attention to myself, but prefer it being on Jesus. However, I realized the story is about Jesus and who the Living God is in my life. What a friend. Thanks. Bob
“But the most important lesson I think I am getting from what you wrote is how aware we must be of what is going on around us and then to move when He says MOVE.” Me too, Carolyn!! I think this is the only way we can guard against terror-is to ask God for this insight. Bob

Bob,
What an amazing story and testament of surrendering in the midst of an uncomfortable situation.
“Did I not feel a certainty in knowing he was going to hijack a airplane?” Your words spoke volumes to me about the value of real faith. Most of us board airplanes with some level of confidence that we will arrive safely at our destination. We step into elevators feeling assured that we will make it to the next floor without falling down the shaft. I would classify these as normal everyday events.
My question is how many of us could board the same plane after looking “evil” in the eyes for 2hrs? You knew he was on one of those 3 planes & you had your metal hiking sticks handy as proof of your “certainty”. As you indicated, God instructed you to fly on that plane. You did more than just take that so called “leap of faith”.
I have a long way to grow in my christian faith. However, I’m not content with having a faith that dispels uncertainty; I wish to thrive with a faith that will help me to excel in the realm of uncertainty.
Thank You Bob for giving us your insight into how the 9/11 attacks impacted your life.
Blessings to you,
Melinda
Hi Bob
We just took the time to listen to your 9-11 experience. Thanks for being so detailed on the events leading up to the final outcome. What a marvelous story to show forth the love of God and what lengths He will go to. He truly is speaking to us if we will but take the time not only to listen but even more so, that we would have confidence in the fact that the God of the universe speaks to us individually.
My prayer is that we could harness His power in the days ahead in order to do collectively and individually His plan for our lives. I also believe this kind of relationship will be critical to us all.
Bob, just wanted to let you know that your sharing has been an encouragement to both John and myself as we endeavor to walk out His plans and into His destiny for our lives. God is not as cut and dried as some would think and I believe your story shows the detail that God will go to,which for the most part doesn’t make sense to our minds.
He takes the time to speak into our hearts if we will listen. This is why I believe we must be aware of what is being written on our hearts daily. My prayer is that we would all allow God to write with His finger on our hearts His purposes for mankind!
Your are truly a wonderful friend to us but more importantly a Friend of God!
Greetings Diane,
You said, “God is not as cut and dried as some would think and I believe your story shows the detail that God will go to,which for the most part doesn’t make sense to our minds.” Some people commented in the past few months that they did not fully understand what I am saying. I think you put your pointer on that part of it for most of us. Out minds will need to be transformed to think like Him. That is a big task! Until we see it better, we cannot understand but must trust the Father, who tells little children, “Its OK, you will understand someday but until then just trust me.”
I am also very encouraged personally at what you said. I want to breath life into the family of God in any way possible. My next blog appears to be shaping us as what you mentioned in your comment, but you said it so beautifully, as you often do in your Tweets @dbroos or on your webpage dynamicliving4u.com >:
“My prayer is that we would all allow God to write with His finger on our hearts His purposes for mankind!” Lets all join in this prayer. I believe He is working day and night to do this.
Bob
This is an incredible story, Bob. Thank you for sharing it with the world.
