The Hinge of Family Love
Today I am building on prior blogs to discover what the changes are looking like in this “hinge of history.” Another hinge passage of Scripture is in Malachi chapter 4 verse five: it speaks of the passion God has for creating the love of a family. This is the final verse in the Old Testament. The idea that this verse is quoted again by an angel in Luke 1:17, the beginning of the New Testament, causes me to think of a literal hinge:
“Behold, I will send you Elijah the prophet before the great and awesome day of the Lord comes. 6 And he will turn the hearts of fathers to their children and the hearts of children to their fathers, lest I come and strike the land with a decree of utter destruction.” Mal. 4:5
He said if we do not do this He will bring a curse upon the earth!! He means it friends. He has been patient with us for so long, but now we must move into maturity in this or be left behind.
In yesterday’s blog post, the name came from “we never saw anything like this”: a quote from Mark Chapter Two. This chapter is interesting in that it points out a way in which spiritual family must bridge the gap for us as we turn the door of the hinge to open in the last days before Jesus comes back.
In Mark Chapter Two I see not only a great story about healing, but a metaphor of the times we live in and of Luke 1:17. Jesus was in a house packed with people. Not one more person could be pushed in. A group of friends carried a man who needed healing all the way to this place. When they saw that Jesus was inaccessible through the door, the friends went to the roof and dug a hole in it. Then they lowered him down into the presence of Jesus from the roof.
This love persisted: I think this is a picture of God’s heart for the believers today. He wants us to form little family groups; some call them tribes, some call them other things, but I call them spiritual families to get the point across from The Prophet Malachi and Luke. I see this happening in the movement of God today. I see little “home churches;” I see people bonding on the internet. Today I saw a man speaking wonderful grateful because thousands of people today prayed for his child through Twitter. I see all sorts of love bonds forming. This is God’s priorty: healing broken people and creating love in the family of God.
I also see that no longer can we form groups that pat each other on the back and do nothing but “feel good.” Those groups quit feeling good and break up! We need to lead our friends to healing, to salvation, to emancipation and whatever else they need. God is going to rebuild everything from the rubble and time is short. We are given power not for our discretion; it is only to preach the gospel to the poor and to heal the brokenhearted. We need to please God with love between generations. But most of all we need to love. That means reaching out and getting dirty tearing holes in ceilings with our friends, looking for a way to get people to Jesus.
The other day I asked God what I should pray. He said, “Pray the Lord of the Harvest brings forth laborers for the Harvest. The Harvest is plentiful but the laborers are few.”
“My mother and my brothers are those who hear the word of God and do it.” Luke 8:19-21

Funny isn’t it, God has to get us back to the basics in order to move us ahead.
God is love and we are created in His image, therefore it’s time to get on with it.
Let us not just say we have love, and read about love but let’s show others His love.Let’s not grow weary my friends.
Thanks once again for you insight and for inspiring us to come up higher in Him.

Yes, well said. Also, “Praise: Key to Breakthrough?” posted earlier is really a key to combine with community & family. We must learn to praise God and at least God in each other, but just the people for who they are (and forget who they are not.)Always glad for your insight. Bob

What a POWER-ful quote!
There is so much wounded-ness in the world today. People are filling that DEEP VOID within their lives, with ANYTHING & EVERYTHING, but JESUS…falling DEEPER into destruction. Searching for MORE, but ending up with less.
JESUS = LOVE
(pure, unadulterated love)
May we all continue to seek the Lord with all our hearts, so that we can actively show Christ’s LOVE to each one that we come into contact with.
Hearts will be healed; lives will be changed. AND, the world will know the REAL reason for living…true communion with God.
MORE OF HIM: less of me…that is how it is supposed to be!

Thank you Karla for your words. I can say nothing but I wholeheartedly agree. Also, in my haste to reply to Diane, I forgot to say my reaction at the time. I completely agree about the quote. It summarizes the “poor” mentioned so often in Scripture. Thank your for acknowledging that. Can we tweet that Diane?:-)

Thank you Bob! This reminds me of Psalms 68:6: “God sets the solitary in families: he brings out those which are bound with chains!
I truly believe and endorse what you wrote above: “God’s heart for the believers today. He wants us to form little family groups; some call them tribes, but I call them spiritual families. I see this happening in the movement of God today. I see little “home churches;” I see people bonding on the internet. I see all sorts of love bonds forming. This is God’s priority: healing broken people and creating love in the family of God.”
Let us lift up this torch and join God in this new movement of the Spirit, so He can rebuild His own Family of hearts from the rubble of “church-ianity”. Let’s give the world a taste of true Christianity!
